Freetown, New York, is located in the southeast corner of Cortland County.

It was formed in 1818 from part of the Town of Cincinnatus, and in 1820 part of the Town of Virgil was added.

The Town's address is 2369 McGraw-Marathon Road, Marathon, NY 13803.

Town Clerk Hours Monday and Wednesday 3pm to 5pm 

Town Board Meetings are held on the 2nd Wednesday of each month at 6:30 p.m. at Town Hall.

Planning Board Meetings are held on the first Thursday of each month at 6:00 p.m. at Town Hall.

All meetings are open to the public, and Freetown residents are encouraged to attend.

Please note:

1. It is recommended that you keep your microphone muted and video off until you would like to speak.  This will minimize distractions for all people.

2. When you join the meeting you will be placed in a lobby and the court will let you into the meeting at the appropriate time.  If for some reason you leave the meeting, the court will have to re-admit you to the meeting.

3. All court sessions are audio recorded.  The video might also be recorded when the Court feels this is helpful.

4. If you are having trouble joining the meeting, you can try calling the court.  However, due to limited staffing there is no guarantee that your call will be answered during court.

Town Highway business hours are 6 am-4:30 pm if you need to reach the Highway Superintendent after hours for an emergency call 911.

Freetown's recycle center is open every Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. April through October

10 a.m. to 12 p.m November through March  

Accepting glass, plastic, metal, and paper. If you have questions, ask the attendant.

Amnesty Day – 5/20/2023 and 9/16/23- 10am-2pm. save yourself a trip to the landfill bring those items to the Town. NO TIRES.
